Wen Yi held a silver-white spear in his hand and used the tip of the spear to open the curtain of the carriage. His eyes were extremely gloomy: “I was afraid of disturbing Zhi’er’s spirit in the mourning hall, but now that I have left the residence, it is time for us to settle our scores.”

Ye Zi’s eyes narrowed.

Wen Yi was crazier than he thought.

He exchanged a glance with Gu Yan and the two of them got off the carriage together.

Seeing his current appearance, Ye Zi was a bit hesitant. But since Wen Zhi hadn’t woken up yet, it was difficult to explain to him clearly.

Ye Zi said: “Little General Wen, I have already told you, the death of the commandery princess has nothing to do with me. Why are you so desperate to pin it on me?”

“Nothing to do with you?” Wen Yi pointed the spear at Ye Zi’s throat, “Do you think I will believe that?”

Before Ye Zi could say anything, Gu Yan pulled him behind him, “Wen Yi, you’re going too far.”

“Going too far?” Wen Yi’s voice was hoarse and he suddenly couldn’t help laughing, “Interesting, wasn’t your Princess Consort Rui the one who went too far? Your Majesty, do you dare to say that my sister’s death has nothing to do with you or Princess Consort Rui?”

He turned his head to look at Ye Zi and uttered coldly, “I don’t know what kind of creature you are, but since the priest couldn’t take care of you, then I’ll come and take your life myself.”

After Wen Yi finished speaking, he suddenly waved his spear and attacked Ye Zi. Ye Zi pushed Gu Yan away without thinking and turned sideways to avoid the opponent’s blow.

The two exchanged a few moves on the street, but Ye Zi didn’t take any action and only dodged.

Wen Yi snapped: “’Why aren’t you fighting back? Weren’t you extremely good at fighting on the hunting grounds? Do you not have the guts to fight me now?”

Ye Zi didn’t want to fight with him anymore: “General Wen, please stop, I won’t fight you.”

“Then die!”

“Wen Yi.” Gu Yan suddenly spoke, “Didn’t you want to know what happened to Changning? If you stop now, I can tell you.”

Wen Yi paused for a moment. Ye Zi took the opportunity to step forward and snatched his spear away.

Ye Zi turned his head to look at him: “Your Majesty, you……”

Gu Yan shook his head at him and turned his head to look at Wen Yi: “How about it?”

The carriage slowly drove out of the city. Inside the carriage, Gu Yan grabbed Ye Zi’s hands and carefully checked them: “Are you okay?”

Ye Zi pulled his hands away and laughed lightly: “This is nothing. I didn’t even get injured, what could happen?”

“Doesn’t matter.” Gu Yan said, “You injured your vitality with your nonsense, you shouldn’t have taken such reckless actions today.”

Ye Zi muttered in a low voice: “…….I’m not that delicate.”

Gu Yan calmly raised his eyes to look at him.

Ye Zi felt guilty and immediately conceded: “Fine, I was wrong. I won’t do it again next time.”

Wen Yi was sitting in front of the two of them, enduring until he finally couldn’t bear it anymore: “Are you two done?”

Ye Zi seemed to realize that there was an outsider next to him at this moment and quickly moved to the side to distance himself from Gu Yan. Seeing his reaction, Wen Yi became uncomfortable.

He turned his head, lifted the carriage curtain, and asked stiffly: “Where are you taking me?”

Ye Zi smiled: “Naturally, we are taking you to see the person you want to meet the most.”

Wen Yi frowned, vaguely realizing something from Ye Zi’s words.

The carriage stopped in front of a bamboo forest outside the city.

The group got out of the carriage and walked into the bamboo forest. After a while, they saw a courtyard in the distance. The small courtyard was hidden in the forest, with a stream winding down from outside. The flowers and plants along the stream were luxuriant, making it particularly clean and pleasant.

It was Ye Zi’s first time here and when he saw the scene in front of him, he couldn’t help but marvel: “How did you find such a good place?”

Gu Yan turned his head and asked him: “Do you like it?”

Ye Zi nodded: “Yes.”

Gu Yan smiled and said warmly: “If you like it, I’ll build you a better one in the future.”

Wen Yi walked behind the two and listened to their conversation.

He had known Gu Yan for many years, but it was his first time hearing Prince Rui speak in such a gentle tone, and he couldn’t help but shiver and get goosebumps all over.

Wen Yi impatiently said: “What did you bring me here for?”

Ye Zi turned around: “What’s the hurry Little General, you’ll find out once you go in.”

The three of them stepped into the courtyard, but there was already someone sitting there.

When Pei Ge saw them arrive, he got up: “Your Majesty, Your Highness, this is……”

Gu Yan responded: “Little General Wen Yi.”

Pei Ge had heard of his name and bowed towards Wen Yi: “Greetings, General Wen.”

Gu Yan asked: “How is the situation now?”

Pei Ge replied nonchalantly: “My sister is currently on guard. However, since the medicine has not yet worn off, she has yet to wake up. Do you want to go in and take a look now?”

Before Gu Yan could respond, Wen Yi took the lead and stepped forward, asking hoarsely: “Who’s in there?”

Gu Yan glanced and said indifferently: “If Little General Wen wants to know, why don’t you go in and take a look yourself?”

Wen Yi said: “What the hell are you guys——”

“Elder brother, that young lady has woken up!” The door to the room was suddenly pushed open and Pei Wan’er stepped out from inside.

She was startled to see so many people in the courtyard and hurried over: “Greetings, Your Majesty, Your Highness, this commoner did not know that the two of you were here, forgive me.”

Gu Yan shook his head: “No harm done. Miss Wan’er, just now you said that the person has woken up, right?”

Pei Wan’er answered: “Yes, she has just woken up, but can’t get up yet.”

Wen Yi had been staring into the bamboo room in a trance ever since Pei Wan’er appeared, as if he hadn’t heard what they were saying at all.

Ye Zi turned his head to look at him and laughed in a low voice: “Since she is awake, isn’t General Wen going in?”

Wen Yi suddenly came to his senses and without a care, he rushed forward and pushed open the door to the bamboo room.

Once the door was closed, Pei Wan’er tilted her head in the direction of the door and asked Pei Ge in a low voice: “Brother, who is that person? Why does he look so stupid?”

Pei Ge raised his hand and tapped her on the forehead: “Little General Wen, Wen Yi, the young hero who was in command of the army at the age of seventeen. Did you really just call him stupid?”

As he spoke, he turned to look at Gu Yan: “Your Majesty was unwilling to tell me the identity of the lady before. Now that I think about it, she is probably Commandery Princess Changning who was reported to have passed away just yesterday, right?”

Gu Yan didn’t comment.

The four of them sat in the courtyard for a few moments and after finishing a pot of tea, the door to the bamboo room was reopened.

Wen Yi’s face still looked a little haggard, but his spirits were obviously much better. He closed the door and walked to the group. Ye Zi smiled at him: “How was it General Wen, the Prince and I didn’t lie to you, right?”

Wen Yi stood beside Ye Zi and said quietly: “I want to talk to you alone.”

Ye Zi was stunned and beside him, Gu Yan’s face clouded over. Wen Yi didn’t care about this at all and after saying what he needed to say, he walked out of the courtyard on his own.

Ye Zi was undecided and didn’t dare to follow him out rashly. He could only turn to look at Gu Yan: “Your Majesty…….”

Gu Yan sighed and faintly said: “You can go, but return quickly.”

“Mnn.” Ye Zi nodded and hurriedly followed him out.

Wen Yi sat on a boulder by the stream, staring at the clear and turbulent stream in front of him with a sullen gaze.

Ye Zi walked to his side as Wen Yi suddenly spoke: “I’m sorry.”

Ye Zi froze for a moment, “Huh?”

Wen Yi glanced back at him, raised his voice a little higher, and repeated: “I said I’m sorry. If you still didn’t hear me, then forget it.”

“I heard it, I heard it.” Ye Zi was so amused by his awkward appearance that he couldn’t help but laugh, “You called me out just to say this?”

Wen Yi turned his head to look at him incredulously: “Otherwise? Did you want me to say it in front of that many people?”

As if realizing that he was a bit out of line, Wen Yi turned his gaze away and eased his tone a little: “Zhi’er told me everything, you guys have been helping her this whole time. I was the one who had misunderstood you. A great man can submit or stand tall. If he is wrong, then he knows to admit it. In short, I am apologizing to you.”

It wasn’t easy for a young general like him to say such words. Ye Zi quickly stepped in at the right time and said warmly: “Alright, General Wen, there is no need to be remorseful for this. I accept your apology.”

“Also,” Wen Yi was silent for a moment and then added, “Zhi’er encountered these things because of my negligence as an elder brother. You helped her when she was in her most critical moment and you’ve even helped her get rid of these things completely.”

“……Thank you.”

“It wasn’t much trouble.” Ye Zi said, “Commandery Princess Changning is where she is today because of her own choice.”

Wen Yi looked into the distance and said in a low voice: “It’s just that I never thought my Father and Aunt would force her like this.”

Ye Zi asked: “What do you plan to do next?”

Wen Yi said: “The entire Chang’an City knows that Commandery Princess Changning is dead and I must personally do her funeral procession. During this period of time, I will also find opportunities to come here to keep her company. Since she took the medicine that faked her death, I’m afraid she’ll have to recuperate for a while.”

“When she is completely well, I will return to the Northwest. His Holiness had originally intended for me to return to lead the army, but since I had been worried about Zhi’er’s condition, I didn’t dare leave. Now that I know she’s fine, I can leave without worry.”

Ye Zi nodded: “That might be for the best.”

Footsteps suddenly came from behind the two. Wen Yi turned his head and happened to meet Gu Yan’s gaze. His expression instantly twisted and he hurriedly said: “I’ll head back to check up on Zhi’er first, you guys chat.”

After saying that, he no longer paid attention to Ye Zi and walked quickly towards the bamboo room.

Ye Zi: “……”

Gu Yan walked towards Ye Zi as Ye Zi helplessly said: “This person has such a fiery temperament. He is completely different from Commandery Princess Changning even though they are blood-related siblings.”

Gu Yan said expressionlessly: “He clearly just doesn’t want to see me.”

“No, I don’t think it’s because he doesn’t want to see us together.” Ye Zi looked in the direction of the bamboo room and sympathized, “I think it’s because he’s never seen how you look when you’re with me.”

Gu Yan finally couldn’t suppress the corners of his mouth and revealed a small smile.

“You finally smiled,” Ye Zi stood on a bigger boulder and became a little taller than Gu Yan as he looked down at him: “Your Majesty, I don’t think I can stand how often you get jealous every day.”

Gu Yan wrapped his arms around him and said righteously: “But I can’t help it.”

He leaned closer and tilted his head, saying seriously: “I don’t want you talking to anyone nor do I want you to be seen by others. I wish I could lock you up and have you only for myself so that only I know how good you are.”

Gu Yan’s voice was low, causing Ye Zi to go weak from his words. He tilted his head and said, “Your Majesty, can’t you pay a bit more attention? It’s broad daylight, aren’t you ashamed?”

Gu Yan gave it a serious thought: “Then I’ll take you somewhere.”

Gu Yan led Ye Zi toward the deeper part of the bamboo forest.

The paths in the bamboo forest were quiet and the deeper they went, the narrower and harder the path became. After the two of them walked for about an incense stick of time, the view in front of them suddenly opened up.

There was a lake.

Today happened to be a sunny day with the sun shining brightly. The lake was an azure blue with some light ripples caused by the breeze. There were people boating and fishing in the distance, creating a peaceful and tranquil scene.

Ye Zi was mesmerized for a moment and Gu Yan explained: “I discovered this place by chance before. The other end of the lake is the outskirts of Chang’an City, many fishermen would fish there and many young men from aristocratic families also like to go boating and fishing. However, few people set foot on this shore.”

“How is it, is my beloved consort satisfied with this place?”

Ye Zi was only focused on enjoying the scenery and didn’t understand what he was implying for a moment: “Satisfied with what?”

Gu Yan laughed: “We probably won’t be seen here, right?”

Ye Zi understood what he meant and his cheeks instantly reddened: “N-No, it’s still broad daylight here.”

He no longer wanted to talk about this topic with Gu Yan anymore so he turned his head and ended up finding something even more interesting. On the shore where they were, there was a small boat moored and it seemed to have been abandoned for a long time.

Ye Zi walked up and looked around: “Can this boat still be used?”

Gu Yan said: “I don’t know, but I can test it out.”

As he said this, he grabbed the hull of the boat and pushed it forward, pushing the boat into the water.

Gu Yan stood on the shore and waited for a moment, then turned to Ye Zi: “It can be used.”

Ye Zi was silent for a moment: “…….Your Majesty, what if this boat has an owner?”

Gu Yan thought for a moment, took out a piece of silver from his bosom, and placed it on the wooden stake that moored the boat. Afterward, he removed the ropes.

Ye Zi’s mouth twitched. A piece of silver could buy more than a dozen boats, but as expected of Prince Rui, he was wealthy and treated money like dirt.

However, he didn’t ruin his fun and followed Gu Yan onto the boat obediently.

The two were now boating on the lake.

There was a gentle breeze on the lake, which relieved the sweltering heat of the afternoon. Gu Yan let go of the oar, allowing the boat to rock itself.

Ye Zi leaned in Gu Yan’s arms, feeling drowsy under the afternoon sun.

Suddenly, there was a noise on the lake, mixed with exclamations and the sound of something heavy falling into the water.

The two of them were startled by the noise and looked up at the same time. In the middle of the lake not too far from them, the water rippled, as if someone had fallen into the water.
