The unfamiliar and harsh beeping sound in his ears woke Ye Zi up.

He grunted impatiently and opened his eyes, but his gaze met a white wall.

He was laying on a bed, staring blankly at the white-painted wall above his head. The instrument on the bedside was turning harshly, his breath was filled with the pungent smell of disinfectant, and the gauze wrapped on the forehead caused a faint sting.

Ye Zi moved his fingers, only to find his body soft and numb, as if he hadn’t moved for a long time.

In a trance, someone came in.

Those people came to Ye Zi with instruments. Ye Zi was lying on the bed still being fiddled with by them as his consciousness gradually returned.

He was originally supposed to be with Gu Yan.

Gu Yan had been in power for ten years and had finally brought the devastated world back on track. Gu Yan accomplished his mission of being the “Acting Emperor,” passed the throne to Gu Xu, and left Chang’an with Ye Zi.

The two of them traveled around, visited all the famous mountains and rivers, and traveled to many places.

Gu Xu didn’t let them down. He took over the burden from Gu Yan and became a wise ruler.

After the world was completely stabilized, the two of them found a mountain forest that no one knew about, and lived in seclusion, spending a few years of peaceful time.

But why did he wake up here?

Someone beside him was whispering something to Ye Zi, probably asking him for some basic information. Ye Zi answered perfunctorily and then learned from them that in the morning, he suddenly fainted on the side of the road, and it was a kind-hearted passerby who brought him here.

The injury on his head was caused by accidentally hitting the flower bed on the roadside when he fainted.

Ye Zi was sent to the present and his body functions were completely normal, but he just couldn’t wake up. The sun hadn’t even set when he did wake up, in other words, less than half a day had passed from the time he fainted to the time he woke up

After Ye Zi’s examination showed that everything was normal, the doctor treated him for lack of sleep and hypoglycemia before being discharged from the hospital after completing the procedures.

He left the hospital in a daze. Before he could figure out where to go, someone suddenly smacked him from behind. Ye Zi was startled and turned around, seeing a somewhat unfamiliar face in front of him.

“Why are you looking at me like that? Do you not recognize me anymore after not seeing me for half a day?” The person was about the same age as him. He had clean short hair and looked like a college student.

Seeing Ye Zi’s expression, the man anxiously approached him and wanted to hold his shoulders: “Ye Zi, did you really turn silly?”

Ye Zi frowned and subconsciously ducked backward, keenly avoiding the man’s hand. At the same time, his brain finally rang a name from the depths of his memory: “Xiaofeng……?”

This was his classmate and roommate for four years in college.

Wu Xiaofeng didn’t seem to mind Ye Zi’s reaction and only let out a long breath of relief: “Thankfully, you still seemed to remember me and didn’t become silly from the fall.”

Ye Zi didn’t answer and Wu Xiaofeng asked again: “Ye Zi, what happened to you, how did you faint on the side of the road? I was shocked when the hospital called me. Today is our first day of work, I thought you actually had the guts to skip work on your first day since you didn’t show up.”

Ye Zi drifted off for a moment before remembering that he had indeed just joined a company before he left here. It was now the internship period of his senior year and he and Wu Xiaofeng entered the same company for an internship.

Ye Zi hadn’t come back to his senses yet and was still in a daze. Wu Xiaofeng reached out his hand and waved it in front of his eyes with dissatisfaction: “Ye Zi, what’s wrong with you?”

“I……I’m fine.”

“As long as you’re fine.” Wu Xiaofeng pushed Ye Zi towards the outside: “You have to thank me today, after knowing that you were hospitalized, I immediately helped you to ask for leave from the company. You know how hard it is to get into our company, and if you took a vacation on your first day of internship, the director will definitely have a bad impression. Also, they said that the chairman will come over for an inspection tomorrow, you can’t afford not to go anymore, if you don’t go……”

“Xiaofeng.” Ye Zi’s brain was in a mess. He couldn’t care less about listening to what Wu Xiaofeng was saying in his ear and as he interrupted, “I have a bit of a headache, I’ll go back first.”

“That’s fine, you should go back and take a good rest.” Wu Xiaofeng said, “Do you still remember where your home is, do you want me to send you back?”

“No need.” Ye Zi shook his head, dismissed Wu Xiaofeng, and returned home by himself.

Ye Zi didn’t live on campus during his internship but rented a small one-bedroom apartment not far from the company. He pushed the door open and walked into the cramped rental house. The house that was once familiar now looked very strange.

Although only half a day had passed here, he had been living in that world for more than twenty years.

Ye Zi lay on his small bed and stared blankly at the light above his head as a line of tears fell from his eyes without any warning.

When he first went to that world, he had wanted to come back countless times, but now that he was back, he was not happy at all. Why did they make him come back after he had already gotten used to life there?

And now that he had come back, what about Gu Yan?

Ye Zi curled up on the bed, wrapping his arms around himself. In the empty room, some shallow sobs that were too weak to be heard echoed.

“Zicheng……”

Suddenly, a white light flashed in the room and all the clothes on Ye Zi’s body fell onto the bed. A small ball bulged in the center of the clothes and in the middle of the day, a small green plant crawled out of it.

The blades of the green plant still had crystal droplets hanging on them. He sat down on the edge of the bed, stared blankly at his clothes that had fallen into a mess, and didn’t move for a long time. Even in his plant form, the stunned and dumbfounded look on his face could still be seen.

Ye Zi couldn’t even care about being sad. He looked down at the stems and leaves on his body with confusion.

What the hell was going on here?

Why could he still transform into a plant even though he was now in the modern world?

After living in the modern world for more than twenty years, he had never encountered any supernatural situations. Ye Zi was certain that he was definitely a genuine human.

But now why……

Ye Zi fell back onto his back and let out a long sigh, his mind full of doubts.

He tilted his head and saw the potted plant that was placed on the windowsill. The plant inside had completely dried up and wilted because Ye Zi didn’t take care of it often.

Ye Zi stared at the pot for a while before slowly crawling over. His stems reached into the soil and pulled it out with force, pulling out the original plant before jumping into the pot himself.

Ye Zi buried himself in the soil and then used his stem to hook up the small watering can by the windowsill to water the dry soil.

After doing this, the little green plant lay wanly in the flower pot, no longer moving.

Early the next morning, it was the sound of the cell phone vibrating that jolted Ye Zi awake.

It was a call from Wu Xiaofeng, saying that there was a chairman of the board coming to inspect today, so he shouldn’t be late for work again.

Ye Zi changed back to his human form, casually found a piece of clothing to put on, and washed his face. In the mirror, the person’s face was pale and thin, his eyes were red, and he looked like he had been crying. His hair hadn’t been taken care of for a long time and it was restlessly tangled and slightly messy.

He had a really messy appearance.

However, Ye Zi didn’t care about this at all.

Because in this world, there was no longer anyone he cared about.

Ye Zi ended up being late.

Disconnected from this world for too long, everything had to be re-familiarized, and by the time he unskilledly squeezed through the crowded subway and stepped through the door of the company, he was exactly ten minutes later than the required start time.

He was dragged to the office by the director and reprimanded. Ye Zi felt his head ache from the scolding when suddenly, someone knocked on the office door.

The door was pushed open and a man walked in surrounded by people.

The man was wearing a well-pressed suit, which made him tall and straight, and he was meticulous from head to toe. There was nothing superfluous about that handsome face, his expression was cold, and he looked like he was repelling people thousands of miles away.

Ye Zi’s eyes suddenly reddened.

That face looked exactly like Gu Yan.

Ye Zi stared at the man who suddenly broke in, not even bothering to listen in on what he had said. He tried to see some familiar expression on that face, but unfortunately, there was nothing. The man never looked at Ye Zi from beginning to end.

It was as if he was a stranger.

The man was the chairman who came to inspect the company as Wu Xiaofeng had mentioned to him before. After he explained the matter, he turned around and left in a stride just like when he came.

Ye Zi subconsciously was about to follow, but was stopped by someone.

The director was still unrelentingly reprimanding Ye Zi, but Ye Zi couldn’t hear anything. He could only vaguely hear the man telling him not to come back tomorrow.

After finally getting rid of the director, Ye Zi went out of the office and casually pulled over a person, “That person……the chairman, where did he go?”

“Are you talking about Mr. Gu? He just left for the parking lot, he probably already left.”

Mr. Gu……

Ye Zi’s heart silently recited this name as he hurriedly rushed towards the parking lot. The parking lot was empty, Ye Zi looked past the rows of cars and saw no one.

He leaned slumped against the wall, and suddenly, a voice sounded from behind him.

“Are you looking for me?” The man stood in the dim light, his delicate face completely hidden in the darkness, and only a vague outline could be seen.

It was the voice that Ye Zi was most familiar with.

Ye Zi stared at him in a daze and opened his mouth, but for a moment, he didn’t know how to answer.

The man slowly walked up to him and took advantage of his height to look at him condescendingly. His eyes narrowed slightly: “Intern?”

He did not recognize him.

This realization made Ye Zi feel as if a basin of cold water had been poured on him, chilling him from head to toe. He tried his best to maintain the expression on his face and reluctantly raised the corners of his mouth: “You look very much like someone I know…….I’m sorry, I may have recognized the wrong person.”

There was an elusive look in the man’s eyes and after a while, he chuckled, “What an old-fashioned way of flirting.”

Ye Zi couldn’t stand Gu Yan looking at him with such unfamiliar eyes, he lowered his head and sniffled: “I’m sorry Mr. Gu, I’ll leave now.”

He was about to turn around and leave when he suddenly felt dizzy and his whole body was so weak that he couldn’t stand up. He barely held on to the wall to keep from falling.

The warm breath came up to him and the man stretched out his hand to help him: “What’s the matter with you, did you not eat anything?”

“I……” Ye Zi’s lips turned white and it was only afterward that he felt a vague stabbing pain coming from his stomach.

He hadn’t eaten anything at all from yesterday to today.

The man sighed: “Get in the car.”

The car was a luxury car that Ye Zi couldn’t name. It had a very wide interior space and the seat cushions were soft and moderate, making it extremely comfortable. The man carefully asked where Ye Zi’s home was. Ye Zi simply answered and the man started the engine.

Ye Zi leaned on the passenger seat and turned his head to look at the man’s profile in a daze.

He didn’t believe that there could be two people so similar in this world. From appearance to voice to temperament, the person in front of him was exactly the same as Gu Yan. Or could it be that Gu Yan was also reincarnated?

The man took off his suit jacket and rolled up his shirt, revealing a muscular forearm with smooth lines. His hair was carefully trimmed and he exuded exquisite nobility from beginning to end, making Ye Zi look even more wretched.

Even if this person was really Gu Yan, they were still people from two worlds.

Ye Zi’s home wasn’t far from the company and the man quickly dropped him off at his door. Ye Zi opened the door and was about to thank the man, but the latter stepped in without hesitation.

“This is where you live?” The man examined the less than forty square feet one bedroom in all directions, frowning and shaking his head: “It’s way too small.”

Ye Zi’s eyes were filled with water and he pursed his lips, not wanting the man to see more of his wretched appearance.

“This is the kitchen? Do you have any ingredients at home?” The man seemed to be unaware of Ye Zi’s strange behavior. He walked into the kitchen without a care and after a while, stuck his head out to say to Ye Zi, “Go rest for a while. I’ll make you something to eat.”

Subsequently, the kitchen resounded with the sound of water, as if that person had really started cooking.

Ye Zi hesitated for a long time, but in the end, he didn’t stop that person. Regardless of whether the other person was Gu Yan or not, he really wanted to stay with him for a while longer.

He sat down on the small sofa in the living room. As he listened to the slight noises coming from the kitchen, his eyelids were getting heavier and heavier.

After an unknown amount of time had passed, Ye Zi woke up to the smell of food.

The man walked over to him with a bowl of congee.

There was a weird smell in the air, but there seemed to be nothing wrong with the congee. Ye Zi hesitated for a while and asked tentatively: “Did you make this?”

The man touched his nose and said vaguely: “No, it’s takeout.”

“Then you were just……”

The man finally revealed some embarrassment. He paused and truthfully admitted: “I burned your kitchen, I’m sorry.”

Ye Zi: “……”

Ye Zi didn’t say anything else as he picked up the bowl of congee in front of him and drank two mouthfuls. After not eating for so long, he was indeed a little hungry.

The man sat down beside him and said sincerely: “I will compensate you.”

Ye Zi’s movements paused for a moment: “No need.”

“Since I ruined it, I will compensate.” The man seriously said, “I have a house in the city center, if you don’t mind, you can go over at any time.”

Ye Zi’s eyes were hot. He lowered his head without looking at him and whispered: “I said no need.”

The man was silent for a moment: “I called the company just now and heard that the marketing director thinks your work attitude is pretty bad and plans to fire you.”

“Honestly speaking, in your situation, it’s indeed not very easy to remain in the company.” The man looked up at him and slightly raised the corners of his mouth, “Or if we change our thinking, I think it might be more suitable for you to become the chairman’s wife. “

Ye Zi’s hand shook, unable to pretend anymore.

Tears slipped silently down his face. Gu Yan’s expression changed and he hurriedly went up to put his arms around the person, “Don’t cry, I was wrong. My dear A Zi, don’t cry anymore……”

Ye Zi rested his head on Gu Yan’s chest. His shoulders were shaking and soon the other person’s shirt was wet.

“Gu Yan, you bastard, you, how could you lie to me, I thought you didn’t recognize me, you…..” Ye Zi cried so hard that he couldn’t breathe and his voice cracked.

Gu Yan touched his hair and whispered: “I didn’t mean to lie to you, I……I just remembered too.”

Ye Zi froze: “……Just remembered?”

Gu Yan leaned forward and kissed Ye Zi’s eyes, gently kissing away his tears warmly: “When my consciousness returns to my body and then comes to find you again, it will take a while, so I am one day later than you. I really didn’t mean it.”

Ye Zi blinked, not understanding what he was saying at all: “What do you mean by that?”

Gu Yan’s fingers gently slid across Ye Zi’s face, smiling softly, “Promise me you won’t cry again and I’ll tell you what’s going on.”

Ye Zi hurriedly nodded.

“Mnn, come with me.” Gu Yan stood up with his arm around Ye Zi.

The space beside him suddenly became distorted the moment he rose and the two of them looked like they were in the middle of a void space, surrounded by a white blanket, unable to see anything.

At the end of this nothingness, a pavilion could be seen.

Gu Yan pulled Ye Zi slowly towards the pavilion, which resembled an ancient palace in the mortal world, but was even more magnificent. The palace carved with white jade seemed to be supported by clouds and was suspended in mid-air.

As the two of them stepped onto the corridor, someone would occasionally pass by beside them and salute to Gu Yan: “Heavenly Deity.”

Ye Zi was stunned and subconsciously turned back to look at Gu Yan.

But his eyes were suddenly covered with a layer of white mist and he couldn’t even see Gu Yan’s appearance. If it wasn’t for the fact that his hand was still being held in Gu Yan’s palm, he would have thought that there was no one around him.

Ye Zi panicked and pulled him tighter: “Zicheng……”

“Huh?” Gu Yan snapped out of it and shook his head with a smile, “Sorry, forgot that you won’t be able to see if you’re here.”

As soon as he spoke, Ye Zi felt a certain warm, cool touch land on his brow. His five senses instantly became clear and the white mist in front of his eyes faded away as Gu Yan’s silhouette became clear again.

Gu Yan kissed Ye Zi’s brow and released him: “Can you see now?”

Ye Zi nodded, but his eyes were still blank: “You……where is this……”

“Here is what the mortals call the Divine Realm.” Gu Yan explained, “The Divine Realm has existed since the beginning of the heavens and earth, and in words you can understand, it’s another space independent of the world you live in.”

Gu Yan held Ye Zi’s hand and walked through the foggy corridors to a palace. The various pavilions in front of the palace were all covered with a thin layer of mist.

In the garden, there were quite a few flowers and plants.

Gu Yan brought Ye Zi to a flower bed and turned his head to look at him: “Still can’t remember?”

Ye Zi’s gaze fell on the flower bed in front of him.

If you aren’t reading this on acupofhalfmoon.wordpress.com, then it has been reposted without permission. Please don’t give ad revenue to them and come join us for tea. I promise we don’t bite.

Compared with the neat flowers and plants in other places, there was obviously a small empty area in the flower bed in front of him, leaving a shallow mound on the soil, as if something had been dug out.

Ye Zi stared at the small mound out of focus as certain memories finally gradually revived within him: “This is……my……”

Gu Yan laughed: “This was where you grew.”

He pulled Ye Zi to sit down in the garden pavilion and explained: “Many years ago, when I went down to the mortal world to deal with some affairs, I came back to find a small seed that fell into my clothes that had come back with me to the Divine Realm.”

“I felt that it might have been fate so I planted it in my yard. The seed was too delicate, so I irrigated it with immortal dew and it took many years before it finally sprouted.”

“That seed that originally came from the mortal world was irrigated day and night with immortal dew and came to become an immortal plant.”

Ye Zi was stunned: “These……aren’t these……”

“I know, you read about it from the book that Guangxu Zi gave you, ‘A Collection of Bizarre Supernaturals.’” Gu Yan snorted, “That book is all made up, only this one about you is true.”

“But……”

“Hear me out.” Gu Yan continued: “Shortly after that, Heaven asked me to go to the mortal world to experience my tribulation. I entrusted you to the care of the servants in the temple and left the Divine Realm.”

“But something went wrong during my tribulation and after many lifetimes in the mortal world, I was still slow to break through and return to the Divine Realm.”

“My confidant in the Divine Realm, a Magus, calculated that it was because I was missing one thing in my destiny.”

“……You.”

Gu Yan said, “As the astrolabe points out, our fates were entangled and you will have a big impact on my tribulation. That is to say, if you also descend to the mortal world, I may be able to return from my tribulation more quickly. The Magus calculated this and to save trouble, he dug you out of here and cast you into the mortal world.”

“Our fates really did become entangled after you went to the mortal world, but it was only then that the Magus finally deciphered the true meaning of the astrolabe.”

“The influence you have given me is not only a help, it may also be an obstacle to me.”

“But by then, everything had taken its course and there was nothing he could do to stop it.” Gu Yan said: “That was our first life in the mortal world.”

Ye Zi narrowed his eyes: “So……I became an obstacle to you?”

“No, don’t think like that.” Gu Yan held Ye Zi’s hand and said gently, “I prefer to believe that it was destiny.”

“In short, I failed in that life. What’s worse is that my obsession in that life was too deep, which caused my soul to temporarily stay in the mortal world and even prevent me from reincarnation.” Gu Yan smiled, “But you are different. Once you enter the mortal world, you will return to a mortal body and enter reincarnation again and again.”

“The Magus was distraught and he couldn’t pull me back after using many methods. So, he came up with another bad idea.” Gu Yan said, “He found my soul and used a forbidden technique to bring my soul back to the location of the beginning of the life that caused me to be deeply obsessed. And, he found your reincarnation and carved the contents of that first life into your mind, also pulling you back to that time.”

“Only by eliminating my obsession can I have a chance to end my saga and return to the Divine Realm.” Gu Yan narrowed his eyes and gently looked at Ye Zi, “In the end, you were just being dragged into this.”

Gu Yan paused, then continued, “Of course, this time, the maintenance was stable and he didn’t stay out of it. That Magus also came down.”

Ye Zi froze, stunned: “Could it be……Guangxu Zi?”

“Or you can call him Lord Xuanxu.” Gu Yan shook his head helplessly and laughed: “I single-handedly promoted him to his current position. But look at him, he ended up causing so much trouble for me.”

Gu Yan added: “But I have avenged you. That idiot messed up so many things so I threw him to the mortal world a few hours ago to reflect on his mistakes. Counting the hours, you probably won’t be able to see him for a while.”

Ye Zi was confused when he heard this and his thoughts muddled up.

At this moment, the scene around him suddenly changed rapidly and in the blink of an eye, the two of them had returned to the cramped rental house.

Gu Yan and Ye Zi left that world at the same time.

After the end of the tribulation, Ye Zi returned to his physical body in the present world while Gu Yan’s spirit returned to the Divine Realm. The moment he returned to his divine body, Gu Yan immediately remembered his heavy past. He only had time to kick Lord Xuanxu down to the mortal world before rushing to find Ye Zi.

But as a result, this person ended up in such a wretched state again after only being away from this person for less than a day.

Having experienced several changes in Gu Yan’s identity in one day, Ye Zi found it difficult to accept for a while. He was stunned for a long time and asked blankly: “Then what should we do now?”

Gu Yan pinched his face and chuckled: “Your soul was forcibly pulled away from your original body by Lord Xuanxu. Now that the lifespan of your physical body has not expired, I cannot bring you directly back to the Divine Realm, so I have no choice but to stay here with you for the time being.”

Gu Yan was in a hurry when he came down to earth and didn’t have time to reshape his body by himself. He could only find a body that could get close to Ye Zi and whose life span had already ended.

This body would have died in a car accident this morning, but due to Gu Yan’s arrival, it changed his destiny. This person’s soul had reached the end of its lifespan and logically entered the wheel of reincarnation while Gu Yan entered this person’s body.

However, due to the fact that it took time for the souls to merge, it gave Ye Zi a false alarm earlier.

But now that he thought about it carefully, this identity was actually pretty good.

“So, how have you considered my proposal, Mrs. Chairman?”

      1. My theory was that his thoughts about transmigrating into the book were related to his soul wandering and remembering his past life, so I didn’t even notice the hints >< Shame on me! You have to be commended for picking this up! Congrats ~(^▿^~)
