It took Ye Zi a lot of persuasion to convince Gu Yan that he was really fine. After lunch, Ye Zi forced Gu Yan to go back to bed for a half-hour nap and then went to decoct his medicine for him.

During this period, although Ye Zi’s routine became quite confusing, it did not stop him from urging Gu Yan to go to bed early, get up early, and eat his meals on time.

Gu Yan had to take medicine every day. Ye Zi didn’t want to leave it to others so he organized a spare room in the courtyard and went to prepare the medicine himself every day. After making sure Gu Yan fell asleep, Ye Zi went to the courtyard.

After closing the door, Ye Zi skillfully picked out the medicinal materials, poured an appropriate amount of hot water into the earthenware pot, and placed it on the stove.

After preparing the medicinal materials, Ye Zi was in no hurry to light a fire. He walked to the window, looked around to make sure there was no one else in the yard, then slowly took off his robe and put it aside.

A white light flashed inside the room and the clothes on Ye Zi’s body fell to the ground as a little green plant climbed out from inside.

The little green plant crawled along the shelf to the earthenware pot, stretched out two slender stems, and landed on some leaves, “It doesn’t hurt, it doesn’t hurt, it doesn’t hurt, it doesn’t hurt……”

He chanted softly to himself and actually pulled out a leaf from his body with his stem.

The little green plant curled up on the shelf as its stems and leaves shivered gently in pain.

After a while, he finally regained his composure and placed the leaf into the medicine pot. Afterward, Ye Zi changed back to his human form, dressed back up, and started a fire for the medicine.

This was the method he had learned from the ancient book that Guangxu Zi had given him.

In the ancient book, it was said that the immortal plant could cure all kinds of diseases and that the stems and leaves could all be used as medicine. Therefore, ever since Gu Yan had started taking his medicine, he would pluck one of his own leaves every day and mix it into his medicine. He wasn’t sure if what was said there was true or not, but ever since Gu Yan started taking the tonic, not only did his injuries heal quickly, even his complexion got better.

Ye Zi’s recovery ability was strong and the loss of a leaf would grow back in a night at most, so at first there weren’t any adverse effects. But maybe because he had been plucking them too often, he felt more and more physically exhausted and couldn’t eat enough or get enough sleep throughout the day.

Of course, he certainly wouldn’t tell Gu Yan about this.

The medicine on the stove was slowly decocted over a gentle flame. Ye Zi yawned and dozed off while leaning on a low stool nearby.

About half an hour later, Ye Zi returned to the bedroom with the medicine and Gu Yan had already woken up.

He was leaning against the bed reading a book and when he looked up towards Ye Zi, he couldn’t help but frown: “What’s wrong with your complexion? When did boiling medicine become such a laborious work, are you uncomfortable anywhere?”

Ye Zi was stunned for a moment and shook his head: “No, I fell asleep while I was decocting the medicine. It wasn’t that comfortable of a position……Don’t ask anymore, hurry and drink the medicine while it’s still hot.”

Gu Yan gave him a skeptical look before picking up the medicine and drinking it.

Ye Zi placed the bowl aside and fed him a candied fruit.

Gu Yan chuckled: “I’m not that weak, what’s more, this medicine isn’t bitter at all.”

Ye Zi blinked: “It’s really not bitter?”

“Really. There is also this sweet aroma, which is different from all the previous medicines.” Gu Yan asked, “Did you secretly add something to it?”

Ye Zi sheepishly averted his gaze: “O-Of course not. It’s a medicine prescribed by Dr. Pei, how could I dare put something else in it?”

Gu Yan was only joking, but when he saw his expression, he became suspicious. He didn’t ask any more questions and added: “Just now, Siwei came by and I asked him to send someone to try and contact Changning.”

Ye Zi hesitated for a moment: “Don’t have him go.”

“Why?”

Ye Zi said: “How can it be so easy to enter the Duke of Protection’s residence? Furthermore, Commandery Princess Changning is suffering from an illness right now, making it even more difficult to get close to her. You guys have already taken great risks by communicating with each other. Now that the Wen family’s plan has been discovered, nothing can go wrong at this critical moment, so let me go instead.”

“Absolutely not.” Gu Yan refused without thinking and pulled the person over, “With your current complexion, you still want to run around? Just stay in the manor and rest. If someone saw you, they would think I was bullying you.”

Ye Zi struggled a bit but wasn’t able to break free. He coquettishly came close to him and kissed gently at the corner of the other person’s lips: “I’m really fine, if I go back to sleep now, I won’t be able to sleep at night.”

Gu Yan wanted to say something else, but before he could say anything, there was a sudden lightness in his arms. Ye Zi had changed back to his original form in his arms.

The little green plant nimbly climbed out of his clothing, as if afraid that Gu Yan would catch him, and hid far away like a wisp of smoke. Ye Zi jumped onto the window sill and laughed: “Don’t worry, Your Majesty, I’ll go deliver the message to Changning and come right back.”

After saying that, he jumped out of the window and quickly disappeared into the courtyard.

Gu Yan was furious and shook his head helplessly: “This little brat……”

Ye Zi carefully avoided the passersby, crossed the eaves lightly, and soon arrived at the Duke of Protection’s residence. He jumped into the courtyard of the residence and squatted in the flowers to hide himself.

The first time he came here, he and Guangxu Zi had only sat in the main hall for a few moments and had no idea where Commandery Princess Changning was staying.

Suddenly, two maidservants carrying tonics hurried past him.

Ye Zi tilted his head in thought for a moment and then followed.

The maidservants entered a courtyard and before Ye Zi could walk in, he immediately heard a familiar voice from inside.

“I don’t want to drink medicine, why do I have to drink medicine?! You guys are bad people, go away!”

“Zhi’er, you can only get well after drinking the medicine, be good.”

Ye Zi climbed up to the eaves and looked inside. It was indeed Wen Zhi and Wen Yi.

Wen Yi was gentle and patient when facing his sister, without an ounce of meanness from before. He persuaded her for a long time before finally coaxing Wen Zhi into drinking the medicine. After Wen Zhi drank the medicine, she said she was going to rest, and only then did Wen Yi leave with everyone else.

When there was no one in the room, Ye Zi carefully climbed in through the window.

Wen Zhi was already lying down on the bed.

Hearing the noise, Wen Zhi raised her head and happened to see Ye Zi running to her bedside. The ignorance and stupidity in her eyes faded away and she immediately lit up: “Little Plant Fairy, I finally get to see you again!”

Ye Zi said softly: “Shh, keep your voice down.”

Wen Zhi nodded and sat up.

Ye Zi stood beside the bed but before he could speak, Wen Zhi took the lead: “Did Prince Rui ask you to come?”

Ye Zi nodded and explained to Wen Zhi his intentions.

Wen Zhi looked like she had anticipated all of this and calmly responded: “To be able to leave this place, I am definitely willing to do so.”

“Earlier, Prince Rui had entrusted someone to give me a bottle of elixir. After taking it, I would lose my breath within a few hours and would only wake up a day later. From that time on, I already understood what he meant. This is indeed the only way for me to get out.”

Gu Yan had already mentioned this matter to Ye Zi and he whispered: “If you are willing, I will go back and tell His Majesty that as soon as the news of your death comes out from the Duke of Protection’s residence, to have someone smuggle you out immediately.”

Wen Zhi lowered her head, a slight hesitation showing in her eyes.

Ye Zi asked: “What’s wrong?”

Wen Zhi raised her eyes and looked out the window in a daze, “Leaving this place is something I have dreamt of but……I’m a little worried about my elder brother.”

“……He has been very good to me ever since I was a child. When I pretended to be ill this time, he guarded me day and night. No matter how crazy I went, he never left my side. If I were to leave like this, he would definitely be very sad.”

This was within Ye Zi’s expectations.

As a human being, there were bound to be things in this world that one could not part with. Although Wen Zhi did not succeed after throwing herself into the lake out of despair, she only started to cherish the things in front of her even more after almost dying once.

These were all common human feelings and as an outsider, Ye Zi wouldn’t sway her thoughts.

Ye Zi said: ”Commandery Princess Changning doesn’t have to make a decision this quickly. Today I am only here to pass on a message for His Majesty. If you want to take the medicine, His Majesty will arrange the rest for you. But if you don’t want to, we also won’t force you.”

“Thank you.” Wen Zhi paused and then laughed again, “I finally know why Prince Rui was unwilling to agree to marry me at all.”

Ye Zi froze for a moment and didn’t answer.

Wen Zhi turned her head to look at him and her eyes filled with wiseness that he hadn’t seen for a long time: “Little Plant Fairy, or should I call you Princess Consort Rui?”

Ye Zi asked: “When did you find out?”

Wen Zhi responded: “At first, I only thought your voice sounded familiar, but I couldn’t remember where I had heard it before. But after I realized that my elder brother had hired a priest to capture a demon and even said in front of me that Princess Consort Rui was the demon who had harmed me, I immediately connected the two dots.”

“And also today; not just anyone can come to deliver a message for Prince Rui, am I right?”

Ye Zi no longer continued to hide and said in a warm voice: “Commandery princess is truly intelligent.”

Wen Zhi shook her head: “This time, it was my elder brother who was wrong, I apologize on his behalf for you.”

“Elder brother is not bad in nature, he is just concerned and has some misunderstandings about you.” Wen Zhi said, “I don’t ask you guys to forgive him, but I’m really glad that I didn’t cause any trouble this time, otherwise, I just wouldn’t feel at ease even if I died.”

“……I will consider Prince Rui’s suggestion, please give me a few more days to properly say goodbye to my elder brother. After all, he is perhaps the only person in the world who treasures me this much.”

Ye Zi nodded: “Okay.”

After passing on his message, Ye Zi was about to say goodbye and leave when Wen Zhi added: “I heard that elder brother has been secretly looking for other priests who can get rid of demons in the past few days. Please be more careful when you leave.”

Ye Zi nodded: “Thanks for the heads up, I will be careful.”

After he finished speaking, he climbed out of Wen Zhi’s bedroom in the same way.

The residence’s courtyard wasn’t small. Ye Zi had followed a maidservant before, but now that he was looking for a way out, he couldn’t find where to go. He walked around the yard for a while before noticing two people walking towards him from a distance.

Wen Yi walked leisurely in the corridor and was followed by a white-clothed cultivator with a sword. The cultivator looked to be no more than thirty years old and had handsome features with a slender figure. From a distance, he could tell that he had an otherworldly aura to him.

Did this person really find someone else to catch him?

This person looked much more reliable than Guangxu Zi.

Ye Zi apprehensively hid in the flowers and grasses. As the two people gradually walked closer, Ye Zi heard their conversation clearly.

The cultivator said: “General, don’t worry, I have traveled for many years and have eliminated countless demons. Not to mention a small demon, even if there were another dozen or so, it wouldn’t be a problem.”

Ye Zi: “……”

The tone as he boasted about himself sounded a bit familiar.

Ye Zi couldn’t help but scrutinize the cultivator and just so happened to notice the cultivator lowering his head and meeting his gaze. After a moment, the cultivator looked away as if nothing had happened and continued to brag about his abilities to Wen Yi.

Wen Yi sent the cultivator out of the residence and Ye Zi followed behind them in silence. It wasn’t until the two of them parted ways that Ye Zi dared to jump out of the flower bushes and tumble out of the courtyard through the wall.

Ye Zi had just landed on the ground when he was scooped up by someone.

He turned his head and the original immortal white-clothed cultivator was sizing him up with a smile, “Where did this little plant come from? You sure have the guts to show yourself in front of me.”

Although Ye Zi was held in the hands of the cultivator who specialized in eliminating demons, he wasn’t afraid at all and helplessly asked: “Taoist Priest, haven’t you had enough fun yet?”

The cultivator withdrew his smile and said in disgust: “How boring, just as boring as your lover.”

Although Ye Zi inwardly didn’t want to connect these two people, he still inevitably guessed the identity of this person just from hearing him speak.

Guangxu Zi.

Guangxu Zi held Ye Zi in his hand, walked forward as usual, and lectured in a low voice: “Not that I’m trying to lecture you, but you sure have the guts. Even though that kid, Wen Yi, is so hostile to you, you still dare to show up at his residence?”

Ye Zi briefly explained the reason for his visit and then asked: “What about you, which immortal are you pretending to be again? Does Wen Yi know that the demon hunters he contacted are all just you in disguise?”

Guangxu Zi chuckled: “Don’t you know, the Duke of Protection is quite generous. Only a fool would miss out on such a profitable deal.”

Ye Zi couldn’t stand him showing such a money-obsessed expression on his unparalleled handsome face and said with a headache: “Taoist Priest, how about you change back to your original appearance first?”

Guangxu Zi raised his eyebrows and looked at him: “Why should I change? This is my original appearance.”
